Four thousand years ago, faithful Jews rejected sodomy, and they did so for the exact same reason faithful Catholics do today: it is wicked. Two thousand years ago, faithful Catholics rejected Arianism, and they did so for the same reason faithful Catholics do today: it is blasphemy against Christ. One hundred years ago, faithful Catholics rejected theological liberalism, and they did so for the same reason faithful Catholics do today: it is contrary to the teaching of Jesus and the Apostles.
Today, there are a large number of Catholics who reject traditional and reverent forms of the Mass, and they do so for the exact same reason that unfaithful Catholics did five hundred years ago when they left the Church and became protestants. A lack of historical knowledge, as well as a lack of experience in protestantism, leaves people ignorant of just what they are saying.
I have heard quite a few reasons from people who do not want a Mass like Divine Worship (which we use at St. George) or the Traditional Latin Mass. I am still stunned when I hear them because they are almost word for word with what the early protestants said: "we don't want to kneel when we worship", "that doesn't let the laity be involved enough", "that is demeaning", "it doesn't make me feel good about myself", and (my personal favorite) "I don't see it that way".
I have read tons of books by protestants and they were all largely in agreement over what they did not like about the Catholic Mass, and it makes my stomach turn to hear the same arguments from Catholics. I hate to think it, but it seems like the devil is working to bring about another schism. First the Eastern Orthodox left, then the protestants left, and next we might see the modernists leave. Let us pray for uncompromising and faithful unity. Let us pray for the souls of our dear brethren to stand fast in the faith.
