Beware Yon Dragons

A regular running monologue of opinions and ideas from a "country priest".

This blog represents the personal opinions of Fr. Chori Jonathin Seraiah, and is not necessarily representative of the position of St. George Catholic Church, in Republic, Missouri, the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, Bishop Steven Lopes, or the Catholic Church as a whole.

Say the Novena to our Lady of Sorrows

Sept. 7, 2026

St. George parish is seeking to purchase a piece of land just outside of the city limits of Republic, Missouri. We have outgrown our church building (in just a few years, thanks to the providence of God!), and need to build something larger. I am encouraging everyone in the parish (and any others who are supportive of what we are doing) to begin a novena for us to get a "Conditional Use Permit" from the county. This will clear the way for us to purchase the land and build (it is a normal process for all churches in Greene County, Missouri, but is taking a bit longer for us). The day that this meeting happens, Tuesday, September 15th, is also the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (and we have had a few challenges getting to this point, to say the least, so that is fitting!). The novena can be found in many places online (I like the one on the "America Needs Fatima" site, but there are many others). If you do the novena, it begins today: please join us in prayer so that we can find a new home and be able to glorify God with a church built for the spread of His gospel.
